My name is Nicole. I’m a junior at the University of Nebraska – Lincoln studying Journalism and English.
At a young age I realized my love for books and reading. I took as many English classes as I could in high school. Soon, I found myself an English Education 7-12 major at the University of Nebraska at Kearney. It took a service learning project for me to know teaching wasn’t right for me.
I took some courses through UNL in summer 2016. One was called Writing and Communities. In class we read and analyzed the The New Yorker. We had an assignment in which we had to write an article as if it was for a magazine.
Next thing I knew, I changed my majors to Journalism and English. I’m still in the realm of books, but I’m also involved in current events and journalistic writing.
Currently, I’m working at The Daily Nebraskan, the University’s only independent newspaper, as an editor.
When I graduate in a couple years, I hope to find a job at a newspaper, magazine or book publisher, writing and editing my heart away.
